The Non-Romantic Romantic

December 30th, 2011

So when I saw this prompt from Kassie, I have to admit that I literally cringed – and then I put it on the schedule as a test to my will to blog.

Do you consider yourself a romantic person? Do you prefer fancy dinners, roses and chocolate romantic, or are you more non traditional? What’s the most romantic thing you have ever done for a loved one or had done for you?

And then, a week or two ago, Sean and I were spending a much-needed night not doing anything but watching crappy TV, and we came across the show “Whitney” on NBC. And I found my TV likeness. Witness this episode about romance – or just witness the first three minutes – I think you’ll see the similarities:

So, yeah, I’m not a romantic. I’d probably yak if Sean suddenly started bringing me roses all the time and trying to woo me with poetry and chocolates. I designed my own engagement and wedding rings and made sure Sean had an engagement ring, too, so we were equal (to be fair, he wanted me to have a ring I liked so much, I’d want to wear it for the rest of my life – so that was more smart thinking on his part than non-romance).

I did get married on a beach.

And I love being able to kiss my partner and hold hands and cuddle and tell him I love him all the time – much to the chagrin of some of our siblings.

And I never, but never, say no to Tiffany jewelry and and the occasional flowers. Especially at the right moments.

So maybe I’m not generally a romantic, but I love the romance of my marriage.
