Kristen Abell is the web manager in Strategic Marketing and Communications at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and has been in student affairs for over fifteen years in a variety of roles. She’s worked previously in housing and women’s centers at three different universities. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology, women’s studies and English and a master’s in social welfare from the University of Kansas.

Kristen has been blogging since 2006 both personally and professionally. She was a cofounder of and blogger on the Student Affairs Women Talk Tech collaborative blog. She also managed a personal blog and a blog focused on student affairs and technology. Much of her work is presented together here on Kristendom.

Kristen blogs frequently about the issue of mental illness, especially depression. In 2014, Kristen and colleague Sue Caulfield launched the Committed e-series on the Student Affairs Collective blog. She also edited the first collection of Committed stories for the book Committed. Since then, Committed has become The Committed Project, and she is the Executive Director of Awareness and Advocacy for the organization.

She has presented both regionally and nationally on a variety of topics in student affairs, most notably mental illness, technology and social media.

She has a pretty spectacular partner and child, as well as two dogs that keep everyone in the family busy.
